Adrenal glands regulation & Yoga




Cortisol levels are lowered when you do Yoga practice. This is how it works, cortisol is secreted by the adrenal gland in response to crisis, and this is a temporary booster to the immune system. Your immune system can be compromised if after crisis, your cortisol level remain high. Having a temporary boost in your cortisol level will help boost memory, whereas, a chronically high cortisol level will undermine your memory and can result in permanent change to the brain. Furthermore, too much of cortisol causes depression, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis - extracting calcium and some other minerals from bones, and hindering lay down of new bones. This might also cause the “food-seeking behavior”, a disorder that makes you want to eat when angry or depressed. The body then deposits the extra calories as fat in the abdomen, adding to weight gain as well as risk of heart attack and diabetes.
